The Ontario Provincial Police is investigating the death of a four-year-old girl from Constance Lake First Nation.
A post mortem examination on the child’s body was scheduled for Tuesday in Sault Ste. Marie, according to an OPP statement.
The OPP said in the statement the girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Sept. 9.
The statement said the OPP Hearst detachment received a call at 12:45 p.m. that day to assist the Nishawnbe-Aski Police (NAPS) and Cochrane district paramedics who were dealing with a child in medical distress in Constance Lake First Nation.
The investigation of the death is being conducted under the authority of the Coroner’s Act and led by the OPP crime unit from the province’s James Bay region with support from NAPS.
