A coroner’s ruling in Northern Ontario is supporting the claims of First Nations in the area that juries are excluding Aboriginal people.
The Ontario government is already planning an inquiry into the issue.
It’s important because juries are used not only in trials, but in the proceedings such as corner’s inquests where a jury makes findings and recommendations.
As APTN National News reporter Tiar Wilson found out, in Thunder Bay, Ont., this challenge to the legal system was sparked by a series of tragedies.
