A small group of supporters gathered on the steps of a vacant Parliament as the Justice for Peace caravan arrived to its final destination Tuesday.
The rally marked the end of a 4,000 km journey.
Justice for Peace is trying to stop the Site C dam on their homelands in British Columbia.
Tuesday also marked the anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The Trudeau government made a lot of promises about UNDRIP but so far hasn’t followed through with fully endorsing UNDRIP’s provisions.
And recently approved permits that allowed the construction of the dam to continue.
“UNDRIP is the recognition of First Nations, of our rights, given where we’re at with Site C and letting the permits go through from the federal government, it’s totally contrary,” said Dean Dokkie, of West Moberly First Nation in B.C. who was at the rally.
