After being in prison for two years and five months, Connie Oakes is a free woman.
Thursday, an Alberta Crown prosecutor requested a stay in proceedings in the case against Oakes, who was convicted of the 2011 murder of Medicine Hat, Alta., resident Casey Armstrong.
On Friday, Oakes was heading home to the Nekaneet First Nation in Saskatchewan with her family.
She stopped to talk to APTN about her release.
