OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will address chiefs assembled at the organization’s annual December meeting next week, APTN National News has learned.

Trudeau is scheduled to speak to chiefs, delegates and observers on Dec. 10 in the morning.

According to the AFN, between 1,500 to 2,000 people are expected to attend the gathering.

During the election campaign, Trudeau and the Liberals made a number of promises to First Nation peoples and government.

They include a new, nation-to-nation relationship between the Crown and First Nations, billions in education spending, investments in clean water systems and an inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.

The Prime Minister’s Office has not yet confirmed Trudeau’s attendance.
