WINNIPEG–Manitoba RCMP refused to comment Wednesday on a report investigators have obtained DNA samples and subjected at least two people to lie detector tests as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of a 15 year-old Cree girl from God’s Lake Narrows First Nation.
Manitoba RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel said she could not confirm or deny a CBC News report which said investigators interviewed Leah Anderson’s boyfriend and his cousin, putting both men through a lie detector test as part of the murder probe.
“It is an ongoing investigation so we can’t speak as to how evidence is collected,” said Seel. “We are not going to speak. I am not confirming or denying.”
Anderson’s body was found mauled by dogs on a community trail on Jan. 6, 2013. She was last seen on Jan. 4. The ice road to the community was closed at the time, the only way in or out was by plane.
God’s Lake Narrows sits about 570 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
The CBC report also said RCMP investigators obtained DNA samples from several community members.
