DUNCAN, B.C.–The mother of an 18-year-old First Nations woman from Vancouver Island believed to have been murdered said she felt “ripped in half” when she heard police had discovered the body near a cemetery.
RCMP found the body of Tyeshia Jones in a wooded area near the Shaker Church cemetery in Duncan, B.C., last Friday. Jones had been missing since Jan. 21.
“When I heard the news, I just feel ripped in half,” said Mary Jim.
Jones’ father Calvin Jones said he hoped the murder haunted the killer.
“I hope that their conscience never rests,” said Jones. “Whoever did this (may) you never sleep at night because I know I can’t.”
The search began for Tyeshia Jones after she failed to meet up with a friend at a grocery store in Duncan. A six day air and ground search followed which ended Friday with the discovery of the body at about 11 a.m. local time.
“It’s very heartbreaking because she didn’t deserve this,” said Jones’ sister.
The family is now waiting for police to release Jones’ body which underwent an autopsy Monday to determine the cause of death.
The RCMP said they believe Jones was murdered.
