Danger pay!!! Not all are getting big bucks…Spend this amount of time and energy settling the land claims for heavens sakes..and solve some of the issues that have been long standing….what about the $1.5 Billion that the BC government is gonna spend to PAVE Over a 9,000 year old village site in North Delta – Glenrose Cannery!!! Divide and conquer some more……Kanada Shame!!! I am a taxpayer too!!
There is no honest or valid excuse for the outrageous overpayment of Chiefs and Councillors. Traditionally, the chief worked for the people. Wealth was neither amassed nor sought. Lay the blame at the feet of newcomers who taught hierarchy, patriarchy and greed. Stop saying we are dumb or stupid. We have mastered these concepts. This is now the intergenerational knowledge taught the Aborignal people of this country. Federal government imposed the vehicle of corruption (elections) on our communities and now because we mimic we are terrible.
There is no acceptable or honest excuse for the discrepancy in overpayment of the Chiefs and councillors. Traditionally the Chief and his helpers worked for the people and neither amassed nor were entitled to, wealth for their own benefit. Additionally, concensus was the democratic way of accomplishment. The Aboriginal people of this country can blame the newcomers for this. We mastered the concepts of hierarchy, patriarchy and greed. Why do people think we are kept in the dark by our own local government..the same corruption is being protected as in Provincial and Federal governments.
