An inmate serving time for manslaughter has escaped from a healing center in Edmonton.
Edmonton police said on Thursday, Kalum Christopher Auger, 31, escaped the minimum security centre around lunch time, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
According to court records, Auger was sentenced to six years and nine months for manslaughter and has previously served sentences for break-and-enter with intent, pointing a firearm, and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Auger is Métis and was in the Stan Daniels healing centre.
He is described as having a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, as well as tattoos on his chest, forearms and calves.
“Stan Daniels healing centre is a section 81 facility that is operated by the Native Counseling Services of Alberta. We take every escape very seriously and we are making those efforts to find him and to get him back and maintain public safety,” said Jeff Campbell the prairie regional communications manager for the Correctional Service of Canada, or CSC.
Section 81 are facilities run and operated by Indigenous communities partnering with Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
According to parole documents, Auger threatened a former girlfriend and her sister by entering a locked residence without permission while armed with a sawed off shotgun.
The documents say that Auger grabbed his former partner after threatening to kill her sister and grabbing her by the throat.
“Next time I come back, you are all done. Everyone will get it. Everyone is going to die,” he told the women.
Auger is the second inmate to escape from the Stand Daniels Healing Centre this year according to CSC news releases.
His criminal record stretches back nearly ten years and parole records indicate his “community supervision history is characterized by breaches and non-compliance.”
