Shortly after kicking off season 10, rallies nationwide called for Winnipeg area landfills to be searched.
One of those organizers was long-time MMIWG advocate Bridget Tolley, who was “disgusted” the landfill search had become part of the provincial election in Manitoba.
Months later, a search of the landfills had still not begun and no funding was in place when we sat down with another long-time MMIWG advocate, Sandra Delaronde, who felt Manitoba would continue to be ground zero for the MMIWG crisis, without changes.
In late march of 2024, the Manitoba and federal governments each committed $20 million towards the search at the Prairie Green Landfill.
The search has yet to begin.
Meanwhile, a show that for years took a deeper look into the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous peoples may be set to return as long-time producer Lisa Meeches recently told us on Face to Face.
It was a great year for Indigenous peoples on the screen, from limited series like Little Bird and Echo, to feature films like Hey Viktor! and Cold Road.
We had a chance to speak with the stars and creators of many show this season.
Over the years, we’ve had many politicians on the show but having the first, Anishinaabe Premier of a Province in Canada, was obviously a new one.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew sat down with us, early in the new year.
While a break over the summer will be nice, we’re already looking forward to the return of Face to Face in fall of 2024 as we near our 250th episode.
