Manitoba RCMP continue to investigate the suspicious deaths of five people, including three children, who they say died in separate but connected events.

The investigation began Sunday when police were called to an area just outside of Carman, a town southwest of Winnipeg, and found a woman dead in a ditch.

About 2 1/2 hours later and 70 kms to the north, officers were called to a report of a burning vehicle near St. Eustache, and learned a witness had pulled three children from it.

The children were pronounced dead and police took a 29-year-old man into custody at the scene, although they did not specify his relationship to those who died or say what charges he may face.

Further investigation led officers to a home in Carman, where they found the body of another woman inside.

“It is believed that the adult male in custody and all five deceased individuals are known to each other,” the RCMP said in a news release. “The five deaths are all considered suspicious.”

Fundraiser

A GoFundMe page exceeded its $5,000 goal and has been closed, according to organizer and family friend Chelsea Cowell. The money will go towards funeral costs following the “tragic incident that took place” in the early morning of Feb. 11, Cowell wrote on the page.

“They will need help with funeral costs and much more that comes with the tragic deaths.”
Carman Mayor Brent Owen says the tight-knit community of about 3,000 is devastated to learn about the tragedies.
This is a developing story.
