The Winnipeg Police Service has announced an arrest less than a week after four people were killed in a rooming house shooting.
Insp. Jennifer McKinnon said Jamie Randy Felix, 32, of Winnipeg was taken into custody early Friday at a different home in the city’s Old St. Vital neighbourhood.
“This is still very much an ongoing investigation,” McKinnon told a news conference, noting patrol and tactical support officers were on hand for the arrest.
“We will not be providing further details at this time surrounding the investigation.”
McKinnon said Felix is charged with four counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempt to commit murder in connection with the shootings that occurred on Nov. 26.

Police said five people were shot in a rental suite in an inner-city neighborhood on Nov. 26 and four did not survive. They were: Crystal Shannon Beardy, 34; Stephanie Amanda Beardy, 33; Melelek Leseri Lesikel, 29; and Dylan Maxwell Lavallee, 41.
The Beardys were sisters with ties to Lake St. Martin First Nation, located about 200 km northwest of Winnipeg.
A fourth victim – a 55-year-old male – remains in critical condition in hospital, said McKinnon, who is with the Major Crimes Unit.
“The Homicide Unit continues to work closely with our family support resource advocates and victim service workers to support the families and community through this tragedy,” she added.
The suspect “was on court release” at the time of the crime, McKinnon said without elaborating.
The public
Sgt. Wade McDonald of the Homicide Unit credited information from the public in helping point police in the right direction.
He declined to say whether there was a relationship between the suspect and victims and why the victims were in the home on Langside Street in the West Broadway area.
“I’m not going to get into the motive right now,” McDonald told reporters.
His team completed its investigation of the shooting scene on Thursday, he added.
