An arrest warrant has been issued for Boyd Beaverbones, wanted on a charge of second-degree murder in a shooting death in Maskwacis, about 75 km from Edmonton.
Rocky Mountain House RCMP were called to O’Chiese First Nation on May 8 for reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found the body of Brett Roan, 31. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday in Calgary and the medical examiner determined it was a homicide.
RCMP are searching for 25-year-old Boyd Beaverbones and believe he may be in the Sunchild, O’Chiese, Rocky Mountain House or Red Deer area.
Beaverbones is described as 5-foot, 10-inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes and has a prosthetic left leg.
Authorities say Beaverbones may be armed and dangerous, and ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact police.
The shooting prompted an emergency alert Monday afternoon, when RCMP said four armed and dangerous individuals were in the region.
RCMP say that there is also one individual with charges pending. They will not release his name at this time.
The emergency alert, which was cancelled Monday evening, said that the men were travelling in a gold SUV.
The RCMP spokesperson was initially unsure about whether the alert was cancelled by the Mounties or the province but it was later confirmed to APTN News that a member who was trained to use the emergency alert system cancelled the emergency alert.
Police would not provide details as to why the alert was cancelled when there was still an alleged offender at large.
In a release, RCMP said officers were investigating a number of firearms complaints and identified two of the suspects, one of which was Beaverbones.
When asked by APTN, the Mounties didn’t release any additional information about the other two individuals who were a part of the alert.
