RCMP say they have made an arrest in connection to an emergency alert that was issued Sunday warning of an armed and dangerous man in Maskwacis.
Mounties lifted an order to stay inside for people in Maskwacis and a rural area in Ponoka County, more than 100 km south of Edmonton.
According to an email from Wolf Creek Public Schools that was obtained by APTN News, the schools in the area were under a “hold” where doors to the school are locked and students and staff remain inside, but “regular school operations and classes continue.”
RCMP were looking for an armed 30-year-old Maskwacis resident who was described as six feet three inches tall, 250 lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair with blond tips and a buzz cut. He was considered armed and dangerous.
Police say a report from the public of a suspicious person resulted in RCMP finding the suspect.
Officers from Ponoka, Maskwacis, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, Bashaw and Leduc detachments assisted in the search as well as the RCMP Emergency Response Team, air and police dog services.
Police have not announced charges, but say there is no longer a risk to the community and the emergency alert has been cancelled.
