Mint releases new keepsake aimed at educating Canadians

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation partnered with the Royal Canadian Mint to create a keepsake aimed at educating Canadians about the truth of residential schools. The commemoration represents Inuit, Métis and First Nations survivors. On the front are the words Every Child Matters, and handprints and footprints symbolizing the children who never made it home. “We never thought we would see what we’re seeing in our lifetimes. None of us thought we would live this long but we’re here," said Eugene Arcand, one of many survivors involved in creating this keepsake. The artwork is a collaboration between Cree, Inuit and Métis artists. Net proceeds of every keepsake will go toward the Na-mi-quai-ni-mak Community Support Fund.
