Over 100 women from across Canada gathered in Winnipeg to try and stop the growing crisis of missing and murdered Aboriginal women.
And while some members of the provincial government showed up to the National Aboriginal Women’s Summit in Winnipeg, the women say it’s the federal government that needs to get more involved.
But that’s not the only issue at the summit. Some groups have boycotted the event, while others have threatened to hold a shadow conference in protest.
Those against the summit argue there is too much politics and academic studies when what is really needed is more attention paid to the ordinary women across Canada who are victims of violence.
APTN National News reporter Ntawnis Piapot has more on the summit and issues.
