A national report on animal protection laws has placed the Northwest Territories among the worst in Canada.
The report, released by the Animal Legal Defence Fund, compares animal protection laws from across all provincial and territorial jurisdictions.
The NWT lost points for failing to ensure key animal protection laws within its legislation.
According to the report, there are no mandatory reporting requirements for veterinarians of suspected dog cruelty and only dogs are protected by law.
NWT government officials say they are monitoring the situation.
