Manitoba Justice has upgraded a charge against a man accused of killing a three-year-old boy in Winnipeg last month.
Daniel Jensen is now facing one count of second-degree murder instead of attempted murder in the death of Hunter Smith-Straight.
The new charge was announced by the Winnipeg Police Service Thursday morning.
Smith-Straight was seriously injured while he slept on Oct. 30 during an attack in his home.
Police allege his mother was assaulted by Jensen, 33, earlier the same day. Jensen, of Winnipeg, is charged with one count of assault cause bodily harm in relation to that incident.
He is also facing six counts of fail to comply with a condition of recognizance, and one count of fail to comply with a probation order.
Smith-Straight died of his injuries on Nov. 2.
Jensen remains in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, police said in a release.
Leave him in jail let him rot there. He is a sick man.
