Communities should make their own decisions says Crown-Indigenous Relations minister

APTN News
Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett says the federal government hopes communities will make their own decisions in terms of governance and what projects are approved.

Bennett was answering a question about where she stood on the issue between some members of the Wet’suwet’en Nation and Coastal GasLink that wants to build a 670 km pipeline that would run from northern British Columbia to Kitimat on the coast.

It was part of a wide ranging interview with Bennett, Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller, Northern Affairs Minister Dan Vandal and Heritage Minister Steve Guilbeault.

The cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is meeting this week in Winnipeg ahead of the start of the new Parliament.

  1. Brown Elvis says:

Why can’t the RCMP show that they mean what they say about working with the Indigenous People of Canada by physically moving them out the the “Lip Service Section”, that they are in now, and make their own separate Section and be on their own? So, the Aboriginal Policing Section can develope their own policies and whatnot that will work for the Indigenous People, the people of Canada, and the RCMP.
