The Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science, and Technology is recommending that Prime Minister Stephen Harper review the 2% funding cap on First Nations education, and expand education funding to include Metis and non-status Indians.
Their report is called “Opening the Door: Reducing Barriers to Post-Secondary Education in Canada”. The committee’s chair, Sen. Kelvin Ogilvie, says that these problems “are kinda obvious to deal with, but it seems a lot of these things are not occurring”.
APTN National News reporter Annette Francis sat down with Ogilvie, as well as Metis National Council president Clem Chartier and Liberal Aboriginal Affairs critic Carolyn Bennett, to talk about the report.
