Brandi Morin believes in the Christian God, but struggles to blend her faith with her Métis roots.
“I believe that God opened many different doors for me that wouldn’t have been there otherwise if I didn’t have people praying for me, if I didn’t have my ancestors, my forefathers praying for me,” says Morin. “So it’s a constant journey that I’ve been on.”
But as the role of the Christian Church in Canada’s colonization comes further and further into the light, Morin and others wonder if they can personally reconcile their Indigeneity with a version of the Creator whose lessons were first taught overseas.
