A New Brunswick judge has delivered a “not guilty” verdict in the 2018 hit and run that killed Mi’kmaw youth Brady Francis of Elsipogtog.
Driver Maurice Johnson said he believed he struck and killed a deer that night outside the N.B. First Nation.
Johnson was free to leave the Moncton courtroom Tuesday morning. He had pleaded not guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident that caused a person’s death.
Very few people were in the courtroom for the verdict due to COVID-19 restrictions. Family members had to wait outside.
Francis was 22 and waiting for a ride when he died.
