It’s time for safe and legal to replace fentanyl-laced drugs: B.C. doctor

B.C.’s medical community is grappling with how to stop overdoses when preventative programs aren’t enough.

That’s why Dr. Patricia Daly, the province’s chief medical health officer, took the dramatic step of calling for sweeping changes to the way street drugs are handled in this country.

She recommended, in a report, that a regulated legal supply replace toxic illegal drugs.

She believes the move would stem the growing tide of drug overdoses, which number nearly 10,000 since 2016.
