Cree singer getting ready to deliver O Canada at Blue Jays game

Cree singer Kiya Bruno is getting ready to sing O Canada at an upcoming Blue Jays game in Toronto.

The event will take place Saturday at the Roger’s Centre when the Jays take on the Kansas City Royals.

Bruno, 13, is no stranger to performing but Saturday will be the biggest performance of her young life when she sings the anthem in Cree.

“I think it’s going to be a little more nerve racking because it is a bigger stadium than say the Prospects, or other community events I sang at.

“It’s going to be really fun, but I’m still a little bit nervous.”

Bruno has already done a lot of performing. She’s been on TV and in the movies.

She’s performed the anthem at local baseball games in Edmonton, and the Esquao Awards which honours Indigenous women in Alberta.

But she says to perform on such a grand stage can be scary.

She says she will be singing the anthem in Cree, then switching to English towards the end of the song.
