The Grand Chief of the Mohawk Territory of Kanesatake says he will accept help from the army if rising waters are too much for people living along the river are too much to handle.

With heavy rainfall forecast for the area, people are bracing for the same kind of flooding that his in 2017.

Kanesatake’s relationship with the Canadian army has been strained since the 1990s when soldiers were brought in to break up a blockade in the community.

Known as the Oka Crisis, the conflict pitted Mohawk people against Quebec’s police and Canadian Forces.
