Fireworks erupt during Senate hearing on the environment in Winnipeg

The Senate’s environment committee was interrupted by an environmental group that claimed the senators were holding up crucial legislation so it doesn’t pass before summer.

The committee is looking at Bill C-69 – legislation that is supposed to improve Canada’s environmental laws.

But some groups are worried that it will be watered down, or not passed at all.

Eric Reder interrupted the senators at Friday’s hearings in Winnipeg.

“It passed house (House of Commons) last June, I believe it was.  However, the senate – under pressure from the oil and gas industry, has said ‘woah’ we have to review this, so they’ve started this cross Canada circus,” he said.
