National inquiry hears arguments over whether legalizing the sex trade will keep women safer

It’s an argument that is almost as old as the sex trade itself – will legalizing it make women safer.

Today at the hearings for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in St. John’s, NL both arguments were presented to commissioners.

On one side, proponents of legalizing say it will bring women out of the shadows.

But others say no one was put on this earth to sell their body.

For all the young native women who watched this. If you work in customer service, or have a 40 hour a week job and don’t make as much as you want or need, please do not take up prostitution as this unfortunate native women is choosing to do. Her reason based on she could make more in 2 hours being a prostitute then a regular job, is not a goal any native women should have or be proud of!!! Making more in 2 hours being a prostitute comes with having to do things that I’m sure you wouldn’t want your daughter to go through for 2 hours! This does not justify turning down other opportunities!
IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPPORTUNTIES COME YOUR WAY TO MAKE A BETTER LIVING, TAKE THEM! This women is not a role model native women should have! I am a native women and proud to be one, I went to school received an education and worked a 9am-5am job Monday to Friday. I didn’t start out at the wage I would have loved but I worked hard to get to where I’m at now. It takes time but you will get there just as I have! There is nothing wrong with a 40 hours per week regular job, office, fast food, what have you. Go get your education so that choosing to be a prostitute IS NOT AN OPTION!!!!!
