Grieving families addressed chiefs gathered at the Assembly of First Nations assembly in Vancouver, B.C. Thursday.

The mother of Colten Boushie and the wife and mother of Jon Styres gave emotional speeches about both men who were shot and killed.

In 2016, Boushie, from the Red Pheasant First Nation, was shot and killed when he and four people drove onto the farm of Gerald Stanley near Biggar, Saskatchewan.

Stanley stood trial for second-degree murder but was found not guilty by a jury. The Crown did not appeal.

Jon Styres from Six Nations of the Grand River was shot and killed outside Hamilton, Ontario by Peter Khill.

Khill was charged with second-degree murder but was found not guilty by a jury.  The Crown is appealing the case.
