Four of the five candidates for national chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) participated in a forum at Brokenhead Ojibway Nation on Wednesday.
They heard from Manitoba chiefs and voiced their views on what the role of the AFN should be.

I am a former chief of the Dene English River First Nations from Saskatchewan. In 2010 or 2011, we stayed all night voting until the chiefs elected a rep from BC in Calgary, Alberta. That night Perry lost, but he continued his political journey and was voted in after the elected AFN chief resigned. I live in Manitoba today, age 80 and I viewed the candidates. I still think that Perry will get in by a slim margin. Sheila North will come in second and in four years time she will be the next AFN Chief. That is my prediction. Good luck to all candidates. I heard a chief comment at that election, ‘ why would anyone want to seek that job, is beyond me. Trying to please all will please no one’.
