A Winnipeg family is in need of a transplant for their young son and are now spreading the word for more Indigenous people to become donors.
Tanner McLeod is four and a half years old and has a rare blood disorder.
“He has been diagnosed with a rare form of anemia,” said mom Miranda McLeod. “They call it sideroblastic anemia. Apparently, there’s very few Manitoban’s that have been diagnosed with it.”
They learned of the boy’s condition when he was six-months-old.
He goes for regular blood transfusions every three weeks.
It’s an all-day process that starts with getting needles at nine o’clock in the morning.
