For over 40 years, activists Bernie Williams and Gladys Radek have been fighting for justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

But now they are mourning news that the national inquiry tasked with examining the missing and murdered will only be granted a six-month extension.

“There is a lot of things that are happening to our women today and our women are still disappearing, our girls are still being murdered and our men and boys are going missing and still being murdered,” said Radek, while standing beside a downtown Vancouver monument honouring the missing and murdered.

“Nobody is doing a damn thing about it and they wanna pull the plug?”

Tina House reports.

I had hoped for a longer extension to the MMIWG Inquiry, but it’s not to be. I deeply appreciate the hard work of the Commissioners and their professional staff. And many thanks to the family advocates like Gladys Radek. Like many others, I look forward to the final report of the Commission.
