Lack of funding piling up on the dreams of First Nations children: Blackstock

“We still have issues with education, early childhood, basics like water and sanitation.”

On the outside it appears the federal government is making good on its promise to close the funding gap on child welfare and Jordan’s Principle.

But Cindy Blackstock says people need to pull back the layers a bit.

“We still have issues with education, early childhood, basics like water and sanitation that are going to continue to pile up on hopes and dreams of children,” said Blackstock on Nation to Nation Thursday.

Blackstock has been fighting the government for over a decade to even the playing field for First Nations children that have been chronically underfunded compared to non-Indigenous kids off reserve.

Host Todd Lamirande discusses her fight that she says is far from over.
