One week after releasing new information on social media about the murder of Leah Anderson, the Manitoba RCMP says it has made an arrest in the case.
The body of the 15-year-old from Gods Lake Narrows in Northern Manitoba was found on a snowmobile trail on January 6, 2013, two days after she was last seen.
On Wednesday, a 23-year-old male in the community of Gods Lake Narrows was arrested in relation to the death of Anderson.
No charges have been laid so the name of the man has not been released.
Last Tuesday, RCMP released photographs, messages and new information.
The RCMP said last week it had made significant advancements in the investigation and has narrowed down the remaining suspects and determined that the killer was a male and known to Anderson.
Staff Sgt. Todd Doyle of RCMP Major Crime Services said the arrest is “significant.”
“Investigators have been working since January 6, 2013, to get justice for Leah. She was a young girl with a bright future, which was violently stolen from her. This is far from over, but this is a good day.”
