Manitoba media, APTN heading to court to allow cameras in Fontaine murder trial

APTN National News
A group of media outlets, including APTN, is applying to have cameras in the courtroom to record and broadcast during the trial of Raymond Cormier.

Cormier is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Tina Fontaine.

The 15-year-old girl’s body was pulled from the Red River in Winnipeg on Aug. 17, 2014.

APTN, along with CTV News, Global Winnipeg and CBC Manitoba are seeking permission from the courts to live stream the Cormier’s trial with portions being broadcast on TV and radio.

A hearing on whether cameras will be allowed begins June 12 in Winnipeg.

Anyone wishing to intervene on the camera access can file a brief with the courts before May 23.
