How First Nations in Manitoba are responding to the suicide crisis; a national model in action

APTN InFocus with Cheryl McKenzie

In response to the suicide crisis in Indigenous communities, grassroots minded problem solving is coming to the forefront with a new mental health initiative.

A mobile crisis response team is being trained in Manitoba to help bring communities together in the hopes of stopping people from feeling like life is no longer worth living.

The initiative is First Nations led with the northern Chiefs’ association, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, coordinating partnerships with the Tribal Councils.

With federal funding for mental health wellness, the team will soon be responding to crisis on First Nations where needed to promote life and hope.
