Canadian Human Rights Tribunal – Livestream

APTN National News
Starting Wednesday, March 22, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal will hold three days of hearings into Canada’s non-compliance of a ruling handed down Jan. 26, 2016. In that ruling, the tribunal said that Canada discriminates against First Nations children living on reserve because it pays less for child welfare programs than the provinces do for children living off reserve.

Since then, the federal government has issued orders on non-compliance.

According to the government, the tribunal does not have the authority to enforce its own rulings.

Child advocate Cindy Blackstock told APTN that she is willing to take this on to a federal court to get the government to comply and stop discriminating against First Nations children.
