It’s something people in Iqaluit have been waiting four long years for.

Thursday was the grand opening of the a new aquatic centre. There hasn’t been one in the city since the old one closed four years ago.

That pool was the size of a typical backyard pool. This one, is a bit bigger.

“Very excited,” said Leesee Gordon. ” Very excited for the people of Iqaluit.”

It’s something the community wanted said Mayor Madeleine Redfern.

“The rate payers voted for it, the city proceeded and here we are today,” said Redfern.
