A meeting late last week between First Nation chiefs and provincial leaders in Quebec could mean an inquiry into police relations and Indigenous people could be announced soon.

They spoke at the meeting for an over an hour on what the inquiry would entail.

“We’re just staying the course on our demand, because obviously one of the issues that we brought up is the fact that the women, specifically those who had been the ones making denunciations, are clearly in support of a judicial inquiry,” said Chief Ghislain Picard of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador.

Quebec chiefs have been pushing for an inquiry for over a year since allegations of abuse by police came out in Val d’Or.
