APTN National News
Sad news from the remote Nunavik community of Kuujjuaq in Quebec were reports say a budding film star has taken his own life.
Lukasi Forrest starred in the internationally successful Uvanga. The film told the story of an Inuit youth raised in the south who reclaimed his heritage.
Forrest was in his late teens and a high school student.
The suicide rate in his community is 25 times higher than the Quebec average.
NDP MP Charlie Angus (Timmins-James Bay) has been fighting SO hard since he arrived in Parliament on this and so many other indigenous youth issues! The Harper government didn’t listen to him or the leaders, now Trudeau’s government is turning a deaf ear. These PMs will NEVER understand, until it happens in their own family. So much for a Nation-to-Nation relationship, huh? Just another jigsaw puzzle piece in the larger cultural genocide plan, looks like, to me. 🙁
prayers for his spirit journey with Creator, condolences to his family and friends
Sad trend: Our Youth are dying, faster than Our Elders…
My deepest and most sincere condolences to the family, friends and the community of this talented young man.
Too many Kuujjuaqamiks have taken their own lives. It’s a sad statistic especially amonge the youth. Their cries for help are not being heard in most cases.
RIP Lukassi
Oh man. Rip to this family and the community. This needs to stop. This is to many people . Breaks my heart
I am so sad to hear of the death of this young man. He had so much to offer our world. Canada’s genocide of its Indigenous people is to blame for this.
very sad indeed….. such a loss of a young man with so much to live for…condolences to his family and friends…
Please don’t use ‘commit suicide’ please say died by suicide. Miigwech.
So sad our people kill themselves.
I’m deeply saddened by this news. Condolences to his family and friends.
So sad he lost his way
So incredibly sad, another loss in a long list of losses. Prayers for family and friends.
This is so sad. And Trudeau said all the youth want is a place for their canoes. He lies and messes with First Nations’ communities and it is repulsive to me. My deepest condolences to all.
So very sad…my condolences to the family. .
Prayers to all family/friends, we have all lost <3
Damn, too sad… This needs more attention right now..
Very sad news. May he rest in peace. I agree with Theresa, there should be an investigation and we should all pull for changing this tragic reality.
way to young to die, smoking some tobacco for him and his family.
Very sad. Condolences to his family and friends. This may or may not be relevant in this case, but someone needs to investigate the link between suicides and anti-depressants in young people, especially with a 25X higher rate in this community. http://www.clinicalpsychiatrynews.com/specialty-focus/depression/single-article-page/antidepressant-use-in-children-adolescents-may-double-aggression-suicidality-risk/60f54db67d38ddbf0e9b10d5b4ae019b.html
My condolences, but there are no words. Prayers and tobacco down.
That is so so sad!! :'( My prayers and thoughts are with the family in mourning!! R.I.P Lukasi Forrest!!
