Brandon police apologizes for ‘intoxicated Natives’ press release

Brandon police said it offered “apologies to anyone who felt offended.”

BRANDON, Man.—Police in Brandon, Man., apologized Tuesday for a press release about a local disturbance allegedly caused by “three intoxicated Natives.”

The police posted the press release on its website June 26.

In a statement Tuesday, Brandon police said it was “sincerely sorry for what was released” and that it was “not intended to offend anyone.”

Brandon police said it offered “apologies to anyone who felt offended.”

Southern Chiefs Organization Grand Chief Terrance Nelson said the damage was already done. He said the police’s initial press release “feeds stereotypes.”

    They knew damn well what they were saying and knew it would be offensive but they also knew they could get away with it with just an apology, an apology that is as hollow as a log and about as dead as the wood! We have to stop segregating ourselves by nation, gender, sex, religion, belief and however else we’ve decided to label ourselves. Without any of these things how could we have racism or predjudism. Really when you think about it we are all just people.
