The family of a murdered 15 year-old girl on the God’s Lake First Nation say they aren’t getting any answers from the RCMP about her death.

Family members say they haven’t been told how the girl died and no one has been arrested for Leah Anderson’s murder yet. They feel left in the dark and are desperate for answers.

“It’s really hard to go on knowing, not knowing, that there’s someone here in this reserve that did this to her and is still out there,” said Anderson’s aunt Myra Anderson.

It’s been 18 months since Anderson was found dead on God’s Lake First Nation in Manitoba. Her body was mauled by dogs.

Leah Anderson was a traditional dancer and skater and she was last seen on her way to the local arena on Jan. 4, 2013. She loved to sing, often entering singing contests, and had dreams of attending university in Winnipeg to study art.

“Anyone who ever talked to her would say she’s the best to have around. She was really pretty too,” said her sister Tiffany Anderson. “She wanted to do so much. She was always talking about what she was planning on doing when she was older.”

RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel said she couldn’t comment on details of the case because it’s part of an ongoing investigation. Seel said investigators are making efforts to solve the murder and that the police would try harder to keep the family informed.
