Fed’s own tribunal witness says First Nations children underfunded

APTN National News
A top witness for the Canadian government has testified First Nations child welfare agencies struggle under the amount of money they receive.

The comments were made recently at a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal hearing where a complaint that Canada short changes First Nation child welfare agencies is being heard.

Canada has argued against the claim and, in fact, has tried to squash the complaint to no avail.

The tribunal is in its final months of testimony before the three commissioners decide if the complaint is legitimate.

APTN’s Annette Francis reports.
