  1. HunterDave says:

Theresa Spence accomplished bringing publicity to the INM movement and getting Harper to meet with the AFN. I’m not sure what she is attempting to accomplish now by continuing her fast.

  2. i agree with andrew paul- its not our place to say when they should stop be it spence or the others on hunger strike this vote is useless in this context. now if we where voting on FN’s first laws as a sovereign nation then ya.

  3. Her community and her children need her.The fast has lost all momentum and her health must be devastated.. It’s time to end it. There is no upside to continuing.

  4. Interesting point from Doug Cuthand of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix…

“It’s also obvious after closer scrutiny of the audit report that media either dropped the ball or let racism cloud their critical thinking. Some media outlets, especially Sun News
and the National Post, went over the top with partisanship and racism,
denigrating Chief Spence and her cause. They clearly were trying to turn public
opinion against the Idle No More movement, and Spence in particular.

The audit covered the period from March 2005 to Nov. 31, 2011. Spence was elected chief on Aug. 27, 2010, and was thus chief for only a little more than a year of the six years covered by the report. During that time there is an obvious upturn in the
    band’s financial accountability.

Instead of being the cause of the woes of Attawapiskat, it appears that Spence was responsible for turning things around. This was missed by reporting that was too anxious to assign blame.

The audit for 2011-12 has yet to be posted, but I’m sure it will show a marked improvement. The Deloitte report shows that accounting has greatly improved since Spence took office.

The audit report covers five years prior to her term, and somehow the sins of her predecessors are visited on her.”

  5. Harper all ready sold this Country down the tube to Homeland securities ; Wait for the Queen you say ; What makes you think she gives a hoot in hell about you ; Atleo made his point as always but it was to no avail he is sided with that porker Harper look into his eyes he is all show ; The first nations lost to a do nothing peace of crap that you can not dislodge from the side of the bowl ; Theresa Spence has more balls than the average warrior and it is her choice weather she continues or not ; 5 homeless people could fast till they die and no one would Evan care but she at least has the spot light . I did not hear any one mention Attawapiskat Evan once ; Oh look the Mayor drives a Escalade while the people freeze now how petty and so what that just serves as a reminder of the real problems of Canada The haves and the have not’s ; Canada has become as cold as it’s climate . You have a corporate infestation ; You have a demoralized people who really need to wake up ; Maybe you should go grab up a Cadillac before homeland securities takes all your vehickel s ; it’s time to take a stand and I do not mean stand and point the finger oh look my neighbor has more than me or look they deserve nothing because the have nothing grow up before it is to late and join hands .

  6. while Spence shines the light to FNs needs – she is taking away seat at the table for Idolnomore original mandates. Majority non-FNs now Indians status have Rights to, Spence go home and wait for reply from the Queen. Which has not been 1 year since Spence wrote to the Queen. She ought to Stop discrediting original Idolnnmore lawyers who know how to follow chain of command. This is the problem when ppl like Spence trying to lead when she properly does not have high school diploma. How can people lead wider population when she can not handle her small population.Spence is Incompetent to lead. And she should stop diverting the spot-light which ought to be on her.

    1. Well then why arent you on a hunger strike, if you have so much concern about aboriginals and our rights? may i remind you that you do not speak for me, and my people.

  7. A better poll would be “Should Canadian taxpayers fund an accounting course for Clayton Kennedy”! Sorry that should read “Ethics course” and his girlfriend should go too. Not too many mayors of 1,500 rolling in a Cadillac Escalade while their people freeze. This hunger strike is a distraction from the audit wake up people. Loved the anti-oilsands memo that she obviously didn’t write. Can’t wait for the lefties to completely hijack INM and turn it into another occupy fiasco. Yeah I know another comment for the APTN sensors to delete. Ta!

  8. Not many people understand that Chief Spence is making a statement !
Martin Luther King made the same kind of statement ” SET MY PEOPLE FREE”
the voice of the people has spoken and the few that think they can rule with fear tatics and underhanded dealings will soon have to pay for their greed….we’ll not stand and watch as our Earth is sold to the highest bidder, we will not be IDLE NO MORE !

  9. I think Chief
Theresa Spence knows what she is doing and sensationalized

    media should
stay out of the picture. Who needs a conservatively own TV station with C
reports putting their nose where they should not.

    Well, certainly
    not Canadians.

  10. Do you mean should we respect her decision as she has asked for everyone to do.Chief Spence is in ceremony and will know when it is time to stop.

  11. It’s time to eat not just Spence, all of us need to sit down and eat,Harper is not giving up its time to look at New tactics and new planning on this whole ordeal, cause if they go ahead with the bill the Harper government is going to declare war that we are not ready for,I’m willing to die defending our people our children their generations to come! For all mankind! We will fight for all! Not just our first nations but for who live in Canada and united states of America! Prayers for all in need and be strong and be loud and be proud!

  12. Hey APTN!!!! Why don’t you poll people and ask whether “Should people respect “her” decision or not? Let’s see how many people can actually pay respect/or not to an Indigenous woman in this country.

Wouldn’t that be more appropriate? What gives you the right to generate this kind of response?

Its about respecting her decisions as an individual Indigenous woman…

  13. There’s a thing called negotiating and patience, really no need to starve yourself to death and not be around to complete what you started. I’m sure she has family to care for and who care for her, not to mention her community. no need for the poll, it will not accomplish anything at this point.

  14. We need to protect our environment…Harper would sell it all, and not even to the highest bidder. We need to remove this guy as he works for corporate interests and not the people of Canada. He uses US election tactics (robo-calls, attack ads, etc.) and middle of the night bill passing. As well, religion has no place in politics in Canada and we all know where Harper stands on that issue. I do not trust this guy at all, and if you do, then you value personal, immediate gain for corporations over conservation for future generations. Just sayin… 😛

  15. This is strictly Chief Spence’s decision. I find APTN’s SUN NEWS tactics incredibly distatseful. I am half expecting Ezra Levant to pop out as a guest commentator. Whoever decided to hold this poll should feel ashamed for trying to exploit this heroic effort by the hunger strikers.

    1. Hunger strike means 0 calorie intake. Chief Spence is holding up well no? Still has the ole double chin!

  16. i dont think she should nor idle no more allow anything to flow through this country until harper repeals the bill and steps dwon
