A soldier based in Shilo, Manitoba will be sent to prison for five years for the death of a gay, Aboriginal man.

Jason Ouimet was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April.

Ouimet’s lawyer says the soldier acted in defense of a sexual assault.
