Oilers star Ryan Smyth makes dream come true for terminally ill First Nations man

APTN National News
Donald New recently blew out the candles on the cake for his 59th birthday. He’s a terminally ill First Nations man living out his days in a hospital, and he had just one wish: to meet Ryan Smyth, a popular power forward for New’s favourite team, the Edmonton Oilers.

Some friends put out the call, and Smyth was only too happy to answer.

APTN National News reporter Keith Laboucan was there when, quite simply, a man met his hero.

some people talk about love and others give it…Thank you Ryan Smyth…You are simply amazing! An act of kindness and compassion has spiralled into a example for others to follow…and Donald feels like a star! There are no words that can express the gratitude and respect that you deserve.

  2. Thanks Ryan! Not only does this mean a lot to a man who needs every chance at happiness we can give, you remind others of the little we can do can end up meaning a lot. You remind me to look out and take care, and watch for opportunities to do our best, even if a little is all we can do. Thank you Ryan, Sir! Great example for us to follow and learn from and many youth need that path cut in front of them to see success is not all about taking and receiving! Thank you!
