On a cold January afternoon, Burton Winters, 14, travelled around the community of Makkovik, Labrador, on his snowmobile and it was something he’d done hundreds of times.

It would be his last trip.

Winters got lost and died on the sea ice that runs up the coast.

His death is raising concerns about Canada’s search and rescue capabilities in remote areas of the country.

Burton’s step-mother Natalie Jacque spoke to APTN National News from Makkovik.
