The Manitoba Metis gave the Supreme Court of Canada a bit of a history lesson on Tuesday.

Lawyers for the federation explained to the court how the Canadian government has failed to live up to a deal signed 148 years ago.

It was supposed to offer land to Metis living in Manitoba.

According to the Metis, Canada’s first prime minister John A Macdonald never lived up to his end of the bargain.

The Metis are now trying to force the government to follow through.

David Chartrand, president of the Manitoba Metis Federation, spoke to APTN National News about this struggle.
