JANUARY 21, 2011

Dr. Taiaiake Alfred, Dr. Pamela Palmater and Rick Harp discuss the state of Aboriginal politics. With all the recent issues facing Aboriginal people’s lands and rights it was a lively discussion. What are your thoughts on the state of Aboriginal politics?

The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, although not a representative organization, is an example of a national Aboriginal organization that receives no federal government funding. The “strings” attached to Federal Government funding can serve to stifle good debates on government policy that are fundamental to democracy. If Harper believes in democracy, his government should encourage debate not try to control it.

Yep, I agree that this was a great show. I am a settler, and I am learning so much about the INAC, treaties, band councils and federal maneuvers to undermine the sovereign rights of First Nations people.nI also follow Defenders of the Land and Indigenous People’s Sovereignty.

I watched the program and LOVED IT!!! Mr. Alfred expressed my exact thoughts on leadership. I would have loved if the program was longer than 30 min. Thank You Mr. Alfred for saying what you did, I hope some day in my future, I can carry myself in such a manor. Hiy Hiy

I watched the program and thought the cast was pretty much right on. Dramatic changes need to be made at ALL levels of FN so-called leadership(s). We have way too many cheifs and organizations that do nothing for our struggle to move forward. I would very much like to be a part of this movement of change and would like any additional information or contacts so that we can share ideas of changing the direction of our leadership
