A 15-year-old male from Thunder Bay has been charged with assault and will full promotion of hatred after an assault.

The charges come after an incident was recorded and posted on social media earlier this month.

The cell phone video shows a male striking a female on the street.

Police have confirmed she was a First Nation woman.

So is the default notion of youth, and woman, “white”? Why the racial descriptor for the woman and not the youth? There are different levels of violence. Structural and linguistic is one. Can we try to level the playing field where and when we can?

Regardless, I’ll be interested to see if “willful promotion of hatred” is brought forth as a charge. The crown office there isn’t exactly known for their protection of indigenous people under their treaty obligations.

Racism is a curse to humanity, we need a new law in Canada targeting racism , a hate crime law if violence results in death – life in prison
