Firing of Indigenous Waves producer at CIUT sends shivers through volunteers

Community radio is often a beacon for community members, and underrepresented groups to have a voice on the airwaves.

But sometimes those voices are censored – and ultimately silenced.

In February, the producer for a program called Indigenous Waves on CIUT was suspended for comments she made on-air about two high profile murder trials and about CIUT and its board or directors.

Now other volunteers are wondering what they can, and cannot say on the community airwaves.

I always enjoyed listening to CUIT because of their honest and revealing commentary. The censorship of members of Indigenous Waves proves that CUIT is the same as many other censored Media Stations. Until the truth of Indigenous culture without prejudice or silencing is permitted I can no longer support or recommend CUIT.
